The fire broke out at storage building on the property of Cavicchio Greenhouses at 110 Codjer Lane around 2:40 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 12, Sudbury Fire Chief John Whalen reports.
Upon arrival, thick plumes of smoke were seen coming from the 60 by 100 foot building that was fully engulfed in fire, according to Whalen.
Inside the building were equipment and fertilizers, which could be hazardous to the air. A Hazmat Team was working to establish the air quality while local residents were told to close their windows and avoid the area as a precaution.
“I want to assure residents in the area that we are monitoring air conditions as a precaution, and will alert residents to take additional steps if conditions become a concern,” said Chief Whalen. “I also would like to thank all of our mutual aid partners, whose assistance was, and always is, invaluable to us.”
The fire was eventually contained and no injuries were reported. The Town announced the next day that no issues were detected in Sudbury's air.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
